Platform Numbers And Floors, Ban And Kai, Real Station Examples
Stations label platforms with 〇番線 or sometimes 〇番ホーム. Read them as いちばんせん, にばんせん, and so on. Floors use the counter 階 with irregular sounds: いっかい for 1F, ろっかい for 6F, はっかい for 8F, and じゅっかい for 10F. Basements are 地下 plus a floor, for example 地下1階 read ちか いっかい. Ask for a platform with 何番線ですか and for floors with 何階ですか. Keep readings short and flat. Use よん・なな・きゅう to avoid confusion.

Large stations assign numbers to exits. Read them the same way, then say でぐち.

Floors 〇階 and basements 地下〇階
Japan counts ground level as 1F. Use 階 with the sound changes below. Basements add 地下 in front. Ask for a floor with 何階ですか or 〇階はどこですか.
